Chuan Zhong

Chuan is a postdoctoral researcher in the OCAQπ group. He received his PhD degree from Centre for Research on Adaptive Nanostructures and Nanodevices (CRANN) at Trinity College Dublin in 2018. His research background includes on-chip heterogeneous integration of III-V semiconductors and Si/SiN photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for the application in data storage and quantum technologies. Previously, he worked with Seagate Technology as a senior optical design engineer on HAMR technology. He transitioned to academia in 2022 after several years of experience in the industry. Prior to joining UCSB, he held research positions at the University of Cambridge, the University of Glasgow, and Princeton University, respectively. Outside of research, Chuan enjoys playing tennis, hiking and wild camping.
