In Memory of Dave Farber: Internet Pioneer and Friend of The Blumenthal Group
An Internet pioneer whose curiosity, mentorship, and vision touched our community and many others.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of David J. Farber (1934–2026), a builder of the modern Internet, a longtime leader dedicated to service and policymaking within the Internet Society community, and a mentor to countless individuals - including us. In addition to his many foundational contributions across technical and policy domains, our lab remembers Dave for his kindness, brilliance, and out-of-the-box thinking.
A colleague, friend, and mentor to members of our group for decades, Dave maintained a deep curiosity about emerging technologies - following advances in photonics and integrated quantum systems with enthusiasm and eagerness. He will be greatly missed by us and by the many communities influenced by his remarkable life and career.
