DARPA team making progress on miniaturized atomic clocks
Researchers on the ACES program show early signs of success in developing chip-scale atomic clocks with 1000x performance improvements

A team of researchers from Honeywell, partnering with our Optical Communications and Photonic Integration (OCPI) team here at UC Santa Barbara, is developing integration technologies toward these low SWaP atomic clocks. Silicon nitride (SiN) large area surface gratings enable chip-scale waveguide platforms to provide the cooling beams required in a 3D magneto-optical trap.
